The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, along with their 8-month-old son, Prince George, kicked off their 45-day royal tour around New Zealand and Australia yesterday with a
butt bang. (Though, a butt was, as evidenced above, very present.)
The internet is abuzz with scenes from the Royal Family's arrival, with many sites calling out Kate Middleton's almost wardrobe malfunction and the tattooed derrière as talking points. And, while those things did happen, they're not the most noteworthy topics to discuss. Sure, the exposed Maori tush contrast Middleton's red buttoned-up number in a way that's a little dumbfounding at first; but it's the juxtaposition of the two cultures that matters here. It should be noted that this kind of image is the very reason this tour still exists.
Princess Diana's tour of New Zealand and Australia with Prince William back in 1983 saw the Royal Family engaging in the same traditions and settings. It's a means of connecting two different cultures that are still learning to coexist. If that means exposed bottoms, then that means exposed bottoms. But, don't expect Prince George to rock the same look while he's there — if he did, we seriously doubt the Queen would be able to turn the other cheek. (CTV News)
