Well, it seems the time has come for David Letterman to call it quits. After a very long and very successful run on The Late Show
, the comedian is set to retire at the end of his contract in 2015, according to Variety
. He has yet to make a statement on the matter, but sources told the trade that he'll be making the big announcement on tonight's episode.
He'll likely also lay out his plan for retirement, and detail why he decided to end his run now. While The Late Show
certainly won't be the same without Letterman, a retirement announcement also means it's time to start the replacement speculation. His successor isn't as clearly laid out as the Leno-Fallon switch. After all, there isn't a quickly rising young face chasing after him at the network (sorry, Craig Ferguson!).
