James Van Der Beek appeared on HuffPost Live Wednesday morning to promote his new CBS show, Friends with Better Lives. Van Der Beek regaled fans with stories from his fast and free youth.
One particularly noteworthy story was about the time he used his ID to sneak an underaged up-and-comer into a popular Las Vegas club. Who was this young rebel, clutching onto Van Der Beek's coattails, begging for entry into Vegas' finest public house? It was Justin Timberlake.
James Van Der Beek told HuffPost Live: "At the time, *NSYNC was second to Backstreet Boys. It was before they had blown up... They were such cool kids, and I immediately liked them...I remember that night, we were all going to some club, and they were all too young. And, so I went in and somehow passed my ID back so that Justin could get in with my ID."

They spent the rest of the night dining on fine figgy puddings and generally making it raaaaain...or so we like to think.
So, what happened to the rest of the band? "Justin got in and then tried to pass [the ID] off to Lance [Bass] to get in. By the third time [the bouncers] saw a James Van Der Beek ID, they were like, 'Ah, I don't think so James,'" Dawson Van Der Beek said.
In other news, Stacy, who in 1998 declined to attend Becky's Sin City Bachelorette Bonanza Weekend with her friends, has yet to attend a single brunch in the last 16 years because her friends unfailingly bring up the time they partied with James Van Der Beek and *NSYNC in Vegas.
