Freckles: It seems they're a grass-is-always-greener kind of thing. If you were born with them, there's a chance you resented them — and, if you grew up without a smattering of spots across your nose, it's likely you always fantasized about having them. But, there's good news for freckle-less girls who are handy with an eyeliner: Joanna Goddard at A Cup of Jo partnered with makeup artist Ashlee Glazer for a tutorial on how to fake freckles. Insta-youth!
Glazer used an eyebrow pencil to create soft sunspots across the model's nose and cheeks, concentrating on the highest plane of the face (which is where the sun would hit naturally). She claimed an eyebrow pencil is longer-wearing and less prone to smudges than eyeliner. To get a super natural look, she chose the Anastasia Eyebrow Pencil in Soft Brown.
The key to making sure the freckles look natural, rather than drawn-on, according to Glazer, is the extras. She added rosy cream blush and lip balm to ensure the model looked casually sun-kissed (which allows the sunspots to be more believable) — and, we have to say, she genuinely looks like she just returned from vacation in the Maldives. Yeah, this is a beauty tutorial we'll be taking for a spin until we can get some real (safe) sun on our mugs.
Readers: Would you try this drawn-on freckles look? Or, would you be too nervous to go faux? (A Cup of Jo)
