Emma Watson was just nine years old when she joined the cast of Harry Potter. It’s an age when many of us are still playing childhood games, safe from public scrutiny. But, Watson spent most of her youth growing up before our very eyes as Hermione Granger. And, coming of age in the spotlight was not easy.
As The Telegraph reports, the current Elle cover star is completely self-aware about the weirdness of being a child star. She uses the late Elizabeth Taylor’s career as an example of how wrong it can go: “I remember reading this thing that Elizabeth Taylor wrote. She had her first kiss in character. On a movie set. It really struck me," she said in an interview with Elle. “ I don't know how or why, but I had this sense that if I wasn't really careful, that could be me. That my first kiss could be in somebody else's clothes. And my experiences could all belong to someone else."
Despite the obvious obstacles, Watson has managed to find a balance between showbiz and the real world, finishing up her degree at Brown, dating non-actors, and building a successful career. Take note, all you kid actors: Emma Watson is one solid role model — and a tough act to follow. (The Telegraph)
