The winner of the competition will receive a grant of €300,000 (about $420,000 U.S.) and 12 months of assistance from a special LVMH team to help them develop their companies. Advisement will focus on matters of intellectual property, sourcing, production and distribution, and marketing.
Next up, the dozen finalists will show their fall ’14 collections at LVMH headquarters in Paris on May 28. They'll present before a truly formidable judges' panel that includes Marc Jacobs, Phoebe Philo, Nicolas Ghesquière, Raf Simons, Karl Lagerfeld, and Pierre-Yves Roussel, chairman and CEO of LVMH fashion group. It's enough to make any young designer's palms sweat, but if they can impress in this room, they can impress anywhere — not to mention forge the kind of connections that could make their careers.
See below for the full list of finalists, and watch this space for updates on the competition. The luxury designers we'll all be coveting soon are here.
