Benedict Cumberbatch: “I Am So Ready To Play A Really Dumb Character”

Benedict Cumberbatch is not Sherlock Holmes. We repeat: Benedict Cumberbatch is not Sherlock Holmes. And, as the actor revealed in an interview in T magazine, he is very glad of that: “I always make it clear that people who become obsessed with him or the idea of him — he’d destroy you,” he said of the famous British detective. “He is an absolute bastard.”
In the last 12 or so months, the British actor has shot to stardom, receiving rave reviews for his films and becoming something of a heartthrob — even if he thinks he looks like Sid from Ice Age. Speaking to the magazine, the British actor seemed almost at a loss to explain the near-constant hounding by paparazzi and the phenomenon of “Cumberbitches,” the female fans who follow his every move. Still, with recent performances in 12 Years A Slave, The Fifth Estate, and August: Osage County, it doesn't look like his star power will be fading any time soon.
But, while he might not be getting a break from all the attention, Cumberbatch would like to take it easier with his next role. “I am so ready to play a really dumb character,” he said. We’re not exactly sure what role that could be. Perhaps this is a case for Baker Street’s premium consultant detective? (T magazine)
