There, in the palm of their hands, was the surrounding gay population looking for, well, whatever it is they're into. Though it's been marketed as a "dating" app, it's become ubiquitous with casual sex. Lesbians, however, haven't had it that easy. Luckily, that's about to change.
Enter Dattch, the lesbian (and insanely pretty) Grindr. Robyn Exton, a former brand consultant turned app creator, sees it as the anti-Grindr, though. "You can’t just take Grindr and make it pink and give it to women and say 'Ta da!,' she said in at the Lesbians Who Tech conference. "It’s a completely different experience and product — and I think no one seems to have taken the time to do it yet." Indeed, no one really has taken time to make an app that functions in a similar vein for women. There's Brenda, but that app looks like a purple version of Grindr.
Dattch pulls its aesthetic influence from Pinterest because not only is it eye candy, it carries a certain psychology with it. "When you look at an Instagram feed or you look at a Pinterest board, you can so easily consume who that person is," Exton explained. It's the idea of curating a full personality over a hot bod with texting abilities that differentiates Dattch from other dating apps. And, that's pretty awesome. It's like picking up someone at a swanky hotel lounge rather than some hole-in-the-wall dive bar. How...enticing. (readwrite)
