The Dating Ring Wants To Fly You Across The Country To Meet Your Soul Mate

Another day, another online dating startup. This time it's The Dating Ring making headlines, a group matchmaking service that recently expanded from New York to San Francisco. For it's first order of business? A Crowdtilt campaign aimed at funding a mass exodus of New York women to San Francisco in the hopes of introducing them to their future husbands.
According to Dating Ring CEO Lauren Kay, there are a lot more single women in New York than single men, whereas is San Francisco, the opposite is true. Kay claims that the idea started off as a sarcastic quip, but when colleagues became genuinely excited by it, she decided to try and make it a reality.

The plan is to raise at least $10,000 in public funding to help fly New York's most eligible bachelorettes cross-country, where they'll go on carefully curated dates with their West Coast counterparts. There will also be a larger singles mixer, just in case the dates are total busts.
To be honest, the whole campaign feels like a publicity stunt rather than a genuine attempt at matchmaking. We all know that long-distance relationships rarely last, so whatever romance does blossom from this project is essentially doomed from the get go. Don't say we didn't warn you.
