Is This Leo’s Academy Awards Curse?

Sigh. Another Academy Awards came and went, and Leonardo DiCaprio still hasn't nabbed an Oscar for best actor. Why? According to Vanity Fair, his luck won't change "unless he becomes a different kind of actor, a much less cool one. Cool guys don’t win Oscars." Guys like James Dean, Cary Grant, and Steve McQueen? Yep, they were cool, too — which is why they never won those coveted gold statues either.
The article goes on to liken Leo to Brad Pitt. As the very epitome of Hollywood cool, Pitt "invites admiration, envy, and desire, much more than empathy, because he is unreadable." When Tom Hanks is on screen, on the other hand, viewers can truly feel what it's like to be in his character's shoes — a skill that has earned him two Best Actor Oscars. Head over to Vanity Fair to read more musings on Leo's Academy Award drought, and let us know if you agree with this theory. There's always next year, Leo!
