Jim Parsons Busts Out Of His Sheldon Stereotype On SNL

Last night's SNL opened up with a musical monologue from host Jim Parsons. Accompanied by some of the show's male cast members, Parsons transitioned from talking about his repetitive role of Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory, to singing about how he wants to break out of that character when he's off the show. Especially, when he's hosting Saturday Night Live.

The song is called “I’m Not That Guy.” The lyrics defend Parsons' real-life personality as being well-adjusted, less nerdy, and "much more than that geek who's on your screen 12 times a week."
To further his defense, Parsons was joined by other iconic TV actors who have been restricted to their character types. Kenan Thompson made a welcome return with his Bill Cosby impression, Bobby Moynihan bumbled onstage as George Costanza, and a revolver-wielding Angela Lansbury, played by Kate McKinnon, was the cherry on top of this sweet little number about how actors may lead very different lives than their characters.
Later in the show, we saw another actor break out of one role and into a new one. Colin Jost made his SNL acting debut as the new host of Weekend Update. Jost has been writing for SNL since 2005, but this is his first move in front of the camera. While he failed to properly make eye contact during the first few minutes of the news segment, he is charming and intelligent — and has great teeth — so it was totally forgivable and rather cute. Jost and current host Cecily Strong made a witty pair behind the Update desk. As the new replacement for Seth Meyers, Jost proved himself quickly in his on-screen premiere. We're happy, Colin, that you are that guy. (NBC)
