Awards season is officially over. We're a little sad that it will be months and months before we get to enjoy another all-star red carpet. But, Tom Ford could care less.
While on Jimmy Kimmel last week, the fashion designer and film director spoke candidly about his dislike of the fashions at the Academy Awards: “It’s not a creative process when you are dressing an actress for the Oscars…you are working with someone and fulfilling their dream, their agent’s dream, their husband’s dream,” he said. Though he conceded he was dressing one actress for the event.
Ford doesn't think that the styles worn to the Oscars are very modern. “What’s worn on the red carpet has nothing to do with contemporary fashion,” he argued. “It’s really a bubble of 1950s Barbie clothes. It’s quite different to what real people are really wearing.” And, Ford isn’t alone complaining about the rigmarole of red-carpet fashion. In an interview with The Sunday Times, Roberto Cavalli voiced his unhappiness about the cost involved with creating an exclusive design to wear to the Oscars.
But, what do you think? Was last night’s ceremony a roll call of the same old black-tie styles we’ve come to expect? Or, was it something else? Let us know in the comments section below.
