This Sunday, millions of viewers will scramble to their couches, popcorn and Champagne in hand. The 86th annual Academy Awards are poised to be one of the most-watched events of the year. But, more importantly, they'll also be one of the most-snacked-during. So, let's talk about those treats and drinks. Will you be serving up bowls of dip and bottles of discount bubbly? Or, in honor of the 2014 nominees, will you possibly be whipping up a dish of Science Oven Fondue and/or Captain Phillips Shaky-Cam Chicken Skewers?
It's not easy (or recommended) to craft a theme dish around, say, the AIDS crisis. Nor could even a master mixologist create a drink commemorating the harrowing travail of a kidnapped slave without significant effort. And, we have no idea how Her translates to any kind of food. But, many people took a stab at it this year. Some have admirably managed to create representative dishes, while others had us raising our eyebrows — really, really high. What can we say? Some films just don't lend themselves to culinary exploration.
