Amazing things always seem to happen when Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake come together. Last night was no different with the boys collaborating for the fifth installment of their "History of Rap" medleys on The Tonight Show. Bring on the feel-good frat-boy fun!
The duo had us at hello with a taste of LL Cool J's "I'm Bad," quickly segueing into such hip-hop classics as Tone Loc's "Wild Thing," Positive K's "I Got a Man," and our personal '90s anthem, "Whattaman" by the lovely ladies of Salt-n-Pepa and En Vogue. There was Snoop. There was Biggie. There was quite possibly the worst Nate Dogg impersonation we've ever heard. Work on it, JT.
While we probably could have done without the bitchfest of "99 Problems" and "Move Bitch" mash-up, it was nice to hear Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Outkast alongside "Here Comes the Hot Stepper," Kris Kross, and the theme from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Naturally, only one tune could wind the party up: "Walk This Way" by godfathers of rap Run DMC. Fallon and Timberlake ran into the audience to sing this arm-waving classic as their last song.
