Bad news first: Fox has decided to cancel the show after three lackluster seasons. Though it anointed Britney Spears and Demi Lovato as judges and marked the return (and swift dismissal) of Paula Abdul — for which we'll forever be grateful — the U.S. version still suffered from low ratings. Between the success of American Idol and The Voice, it never seemed to quite find its footing.
The cancellation, however, is freeing up executive producer Cowell to return to the U.K. to serve as judge for the original British version of the show. "I’m absolutely thrilled to be returning to The X Factor UK," Cowell has announced. "It’s been three years since I last judged the competition, and I’m excited to find a global superstar again.”
Considering that Cowell's last stint on the show resulted in the formation of One Direction, we trust he's making the right move. Bring it on, Harry wannabes! (Hollywood Reporter)
