It's been less than a week since the highly respected New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn announced her decision to resign from her post to spend time with her long-term partner, Art Ortenberg, who'd fallen ill. But, sadly, as reported by WWD, Ortenberg has passed away today. While Horyn's statement had given us great cause for concern, this news comes as quite a shock.
Ortenberg will be best remembered for his role as co-founder of Liz Claiborne Inc. Along with his deceased wife, Claiborne herself, he created and established a household brand. While Liz passed away in 2007, Art remained dedicated to the Liz Claiborne Art Ortenberg Foundation. The organization serves to protect and preserve natural wildlife environments.
Ortenberg will be fondly remembered for his contributions, both humanitarian and within the fashion industry. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are extended to Horyn during this very difficult time. (WWD)
