Barcelona Wants To “Fall In Love”

Seattle has another win comin' at it through the aural airwaves. Enter: Barcelona, The Emerald City's answer to "Where have all the forward-thinking musicians gone?"
The boys have since parted ways with their record label to pursue all things experimental. (Though, it should be noted that "experimental" in this case means extremely approachable.) Their new sometimes-synth, sometimes-'90s R&B redux aesthetic goes down smooth and, like good whiskey, warms you. Love You, the second installment to their three-part EP, The Melodrama, arrives February 18, and we've got the EP's first single for you to get hyped on.
"Fall In Love" is an atmospheric track that shines in its subtlety. For four-and-a-half minutes, Barcelona blankets the listener in a lush-synth production where the 808 quietly bumps in the background and the guitar sparkles above it all. The earnestness of Brian Fennell's rich falsetto ties it all together. "'Fall in Love' was one of the earliest creations in this latest set of songs and really helped set the tone for a lot of what was to become The Melodrama," Fennell told Refinery29. "Allowing space and sensual flavors into our sound helped me get over myself and helped the band embrace a different musical persona altogether." And, what a space they've created. It's good enough to get lost in all day. Plug in, turn it up, and tune out; getting lost has never felt so free.
