Photo: MCV/Firstview. The cosmetics industry seems to make advancements every single day, and one of the biggest items to hit the market in years has been the beauty balm, or BB cream. However, even these magic bullet products have hit a common issue: The hues still skew pretty light, leaving women of color out of the customer base. People, why is it so hard for women of color to find a BB cream that suits their skin tone?
The writer of a recent story from The Gloss wrote about her trials searching for a compatible cream, and her quest is nothing short of epic. She does her homework, going so far as heading to her local Sephora to swatch a broad range of brands to show the darkest hues available. One look at the light dots on her hand, and it's pretty clear that most companies manufacturing BB creams still aren't catering to women darker than, say, mildly tan. The article mentions which brands actually DO make the cut for women of color, but (spoiler alert) they number in the very few, with most companies offering a color range that's abysmal at best.
The writer shines a light on the dearth of complexion products for women outside the Caucasian color range. It's not really a matter of technology or demand as much as it seems to be a point of willingness. Women of color are armed with buying power and needs for products that give them an even, luminous look. Let's hear it, makeup companies: Why the delay with a more comprehensive color range of BB creams? Surely there's demand, so where's the supply? (The Gloss)
