Chanel Shows Us How Sparkle Eyeliner Is Done

We've discussed eyelid art, we've covered glitter, but there's a new eye-makeup trend afoot that we have to admit we never saw coming — especially at the Chanel Haute Couture show, of all places. Models appeared wearing spiky hair, cat-eye liner, and — wait for it — chunky glitter on their lower lashlines. For reals.
We caught up with Peter Phillips, the key makeup artist behind the look, to find out once and for all: Why sequins? "For this season's Haute Couture makeup look, Karl gave me a few key ideas to start off with: Iridescence, and a focus on the eyes," says the artist. "We decided to go for light and fresh makeup, with a twist. For the eye makeup, I went for a classic black eyeliner (Ligne Graphique De Chanel Liquid Eyeliner in Noir and Le Crayon Kôhl Intense Eye Pencil in Claire), combined with an exaggerated holographic under-eyeliner in different-sized glitters."

To get the look right, the Phillips paired the dramatic eyes with bare-looking faces, created using Perfection Lumière Velvet Smooth Effect Makeup (new for March 2014), Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Espiègle, and Rouge Coco Shine Hydrating Sheer Lipshine in Satisfaction (available in February).
No, it's not your everyday makeup — but, we're dying to take it for a spin for our next big night out. What do you think about Chanel's haute-couture take on the cat-eye? Would you give spangled lids a whirl, or do you think that it's best left on the runway (or at the circus)?
