Well, January 5, the day all those single people out there were supposed to land a date, has come and gone. Consider this our up-top to those out there who nabbed one (and fingers crossed it goes well!), but there's still time for those who didn't. The year is young, and there are, er, plenty of fish in the sea.
Speaking of plenty of fish (where could this be going, right?), the online dating site once featured in a Lady Gaga music video, Plenty of Fish, has some tips on optimizing your profile. Well, maybe not optimizing it, as you should never lie about yourself, but what its users are searching for the most. The site, along with two PhD students and a team of researchers, polled over 81,000 users between the ages of 25-35 to see what singles across the States find the most desirable. PoF factored in various human attributes, demographics, and profile lengths to determine who is the most desirable man and woman of 2014.
If you're a 25-year-old, thin, Catholic woman with a dog who has the ability to commit, you're basically a dating magnet. Turns out that women who don't drink get an average of 24% less interaction than those who do. In the same vein, Catholic women receive 20% more messages than other religions. Ridiculous? Perhaps, but these are the hard numbers. Men with money — like, men who earn somewhere between $100K to $150K a year — garner an average of 42% more messages than other men. (You can play "Gold Digger" any time now.) Women are also apparently looking for men who can write a profile longer than 1,000 characters and have a doctorate. Oh, and the most desirable man has to have brown hair, too.
Breathe in, breathe out. Whatever happened to, you know, real romance? The kind that's based on connections, sparks, butterflies in the tummy kind of romance? Sigh. Now that Black Eyed Peas song "Where Is The Love" is playing in our heads. Great. (Plenty of Fish)
