Success means different things to different people. For many, being a 27-year-old with a law degree, a mortgage, and a six-figure salary is the very definition of the word. But, for some, it's about having the chutzpah to give that all up for a chance at your dream career. For Keija Minor, the first African-American editor-in-chief at Condé Nast, her career path has been one filled with hard decisions, self-sufficiency, and assertiveness.

Fashionista sat down with Minor to talk about her decision to leave her corporate law job with a six-figure salary for an internship at the seven-person magazine Travel Savvy. After saving up a year's worth of mortgage payments and taking an 85% pay cut, Minor quickly worked her way up the ladder at the start-up publication, eventually becoming editor-in-chief at a couple of different glossies. However, don't think it was a smooth ride to the top. Let's just say that you aren't simply handed the title of EIC.
