Why We’re Leaving Our Skin In The Hands Of A Drunk Elephant

delineup
We're suckers for gorgeous packaging and a clever name, so yes, Drunk Elephant did have us at hello. (Look at the bright colors and cute pachyderm! Can you blame us?) But, when we delved into the skin-care brand's backstory, it all made sense. No, the name doesn't come from that time Dumbo got blotto. Instead, it's rooted in a legend popular in parts of southern Africa. As the story goes, when elephants gorge on marula nuts, they become tipsy. Aww.
Cute name aside, the six-product collection appeals to us. After learning about the antioxidants and fatty acids in marula oil, founder Tiffany Masterson created a small but powerful vegan skin-care line around it. The brand aims to be as effective as it is safe. It's free of fragrance, parabens, alcohol, sulfates, phthalates, and other possibly problematic ingredients. (Even essential oils are verboten.) Here's what you will find: active ingredients such as salicylic acid, glycolic acid, physical sunblocks, and vitamin C. Intoxicating stuff? You bet.
Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Framboos Glycolic Night Serum, $90; C-Firma Day Serum, $80; Umbra Sheer Physical Defense, $42; and Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil, $72; all available at Drunk Elephant.
