The Vogue Health Initiative, which aims to promote a "healthier approach to body image within the industry," has been a pretty successful change that's taken place over the past year. But, as reported by Fashionista, the publication is facing its third violation. Within last month's issue of Vogue Mexico — fronted by the stunning Behati Prinsloo — was an editorial featuring Polish model Julie Borawska, who, at 15 years old, does not meet the initiative's age minimum of 16. Yet, while some fingers may instantly point in one direction, this recent mishap brings to light the difficulties within the fashion industry as a whole to adjust to change.
As the Fashionista story points out, the images used for the Vogue Mexico shoot were not cast by the magazine. Instead, they were commissioned from photographer Kevin Sinclair, who claimed he was not aware of Borawska's age. Of course, there should be some accountability when slipups like this occur, but this instance also serves as a bit of a wake-up call to editors, photographers, and agents alike who need to ensure the safety of a model whose face represents their respective work.
