This week kicks off the chaotic experience that is holiday travel, and let’s be honest — no one wants to be stuck on the tarmac dreaming of a delicious Thanksgiving dinner. But, if you're flying JetBlue this season, your odds of doing just that are unusually high. Forbes partnered with flight-tracking group FlightAware to examine the number of delayed flights by airline over the holidays from 2010 to 2012. Researchers looked at how many late arrivals each airline recorded around Thanksgiving and between Christmas and New Year's, and the results from that three-year period were pretty enlightening — and a little troubling for us East Coasters.
The study found that the majority of airlines posting on-time arrivals are based on the West Coast. Less than seven percent of Hawaiian Airlines flights landed late, which put the airline in first place. In the glorious standing of last place? JetBlue, with 22 percent of flights being delayed around the holidays. Technically, JetBlue was second to last, with Comair (a carrier for Delta Air Lines) ranking worse, but it was shut down in 2012. So, if you're flying JetBlue anytime soon, you might want to brace yourself for a delay — and bring a good book to pass the time.
