Today, in weird beauty news, the Japanese trend tsuke-yaeba — meaning "canine teeth" and involving glued-on dental caps that give one the appearance of crooked teeth — has reached a whole new level. Amidst the intense competition between dentists that offer this procedure, one went so far as to produce a girl band to promote tsuke-yaeba, according to Beautylish. The article states, "The dentist-backed girl group released their first CD last year entitled Mind If I Bite?"
The image of the snaggle-toothed girl band shows three adolescents in short plaid skirts. While this sort of thing might be no big deal in Japan, as Americans, we feel a little uncomfortable. It looks like they're wearing the kind of school-girl outfit that is too sexy to be anything other than mildly creepy. We wonder where the line between sexiness and youthfulness should be drawn.
