We know, we know, what took so long?! Well, as it turns out, Kennedy Center has tried to bestow her with the prize several times over her career, but the comedienne has been too busy to make it to the ceremony. So finally, Tina Fey had the honor of presenting Burnett with the award on Sunday evening, taking the opportunity to sing praises (in other words, she said what we were all thinking). "I love you in a way that is just shy of creepy," she said. "A lot of female comediennes are going to come out and say that 'I love you so much,' but I’m saying it first!"
The organizers of the fun-filled night took the opportunity not only to gush about all of Burnett's talent and her work to pave the way for other comediennes, but treated the audience to a few uproarious laughs. There were scores of clips from her memorable sketch comedy career — everything from the iconic Carol Burnett Show to her duet with Lucille Ball. We've got to give her major props for inspiring some of our favorite talents today — Tina Fey, we're talking about you! Check out one of our favorite Carol sketches from her eponymous show, below.
