If you're experiencing problems with Facebook this morning, it's not just you. The social-media site is currently suffering a system outage that is preventing users from updating their statuses.
Earlier this morning, some users couldn't log on at all, being met with a "Facebook is down for required maintenance right now" message. That problem, however, has apparently been resolved. Status updates are a different story. Other users have received a different error message: “There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes.” The issue may not be entirely site-wide; though, numerous reports from across the Web indicate that it is far-reaching, if nothing else. The Wall Street Journal reports that the iPhone Facebook app allowed some users to send status updates, but that they were ultimately not published.
The company has not yet addressed the problem, but we expect it to shortly. We will continue to update as this develops — just perhaps not on our Facebook page. (Wall Street Journal)
