Entering the newly opened Alexander McQueen boutique on Madison Avenue is like walking into a dream — the store manifests all the things we've imagined to be swirling inside the late McQueen's head: flora and fauna, Francis Bacon's paintings of Popes, the surreal works of surrealist artist H.R. Giger, the architecture of Antonio Gaudi, and even Rorschach ink blots. A closer look at the moldings reveals shapes of feathers, wings, shells, cactus flowers, seahorse tails, and anemones. Even the floors are sharply contrasted, alternating between beautiful marble and carpet. While the moldings take on a more exotic nature, the signature McQueen wink remains, as they reflect the seams of his heritage tailored jacket. Alexander McQueen creative director Sarah Burton, who collaborated with the David Collins Studio on the design, says, "It's very McQueen to see something from a distance and think it's one thing and then to look up close and discover something else. It's important to us that everything in the stores feels very precious." And indeed, it does.

The new location offers menswear and womenswear, featuring both runway and ready-to-wear looks and accessories (read: clutches for days). For anyone who feared the brand's flagship Meatpacking store would not be truly translated in the Madison Avenue location, fear not. Everything is just as pretty as ever.
