Kanye Charged With Battery After Paparazzo Scuffle

It's been a roller coaster of a week for the paps. Only two days ago, an overeager photographer smashed into Nicole Kidman while she was returning from a Fashion Week presentation, and she's already threatening to press charges. But in a win for the humble working paparazzo, Kanye West was charged with attempted grand theft and misdemeanor battery yesterday. This is after a July altercation, where West got into it with photographer Daniel Ramos at LAX. The rapper had ordered paparazzi to refrain from speaking to him just a few days earlier, and at the airport, Ramos approached West and asked why he wouldn't talk. In response, West attacked him.

Now, Ramos has retained high-profile civil rights attorney Gloria Allred, who's known for taking on major discrimination cases. After filing a lawsuit against West last month, Allred called out celebrities who defended the rapper's actions: "We are concerned that celebrity support for an attack on photographers will increase the risk of harm to them," she said. Allred claims that Ramos was doing nothing but exercising his First Amendment rights.
West's arraignment is set for early October, after which he could face up to a year in jail or a $2,000 fine if convicted on both counts. (NY Daily News)
