We've adored Shirley MacLaine since The Apartment; her roles in Terms of Endearment, Steel Magnolias, and Downton Abbey have only deepened our affection. So it's only fitting that MacLaine was announced as one of the Kennedy Center Honors recipients yesterday, along with Carlos Santana, Billy Joel, and others. (Side note: Santana is only the third Latino out of more than 180 past honorees. The Kennedy Center revamped its selection process last year after being criticized by the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts.) An array of celebs will fête the honorees during a gala on December 8, which CBS will air on December 29. (Washington Post)
