As fashion editors, we come across all different types of clothing during our 9-to-5. But, at the end of the day, there's nothing we'd want to wear more than a pair of match-with-everything jeans and a tailored topper. Durable and versatile, they're our wardrobe's BFFs, but since manufacturers have started swapping cotton for mystery fabrics, that friendship is starting to tear at the seams.
You see, it's easy for manufacturers to create fabric that looks and feels like cotton, but clothing labels don't lie. If you read a label, and see that an item isn't in fact made from cotton but a mystery fabric that's rendered unpronounceable, it's probably going to pill, itch, cling to your body, and lose its shape after a few washes. Do you really want that to happen to your LBDs, blouses, and jeans? We sure don't, and apparently, neither do the mannequins.
This past week, mannequins from all over the fashion industry literally stood up to fabrics masquerading as cotton in a Cotton or Nothing protest in New York City's Meatpacking District. If you want to stand up too, you can voice your support online at Cotton or Nothing (keep an eye out for an upcoming video!), and on Twitter by following @MannequinNo9, using the hashtag #CottonOrNothing. The more support you show for the movement, the better chances a manufacturer will incorporate the natural fabric back into its clothes.
