The only thing weirder than Kim Kardashian on the cover of a major fashion publication is the behind-the-scenes video of said photo shoot — the minute-and-a-half long glimpse is somehow more dramatic than her grill-laden shoot. Perhaps it's the melancholy choral music, or maybe it's the awkward cut-to of Kris Jenner talking manicures with Karl Lagerfeld, but something about this video feels very, very...strange.
The photos that came out of the CR Fashion Book shoot are certainly stunning. Kim gives good face, and the Kaiser himself knows how to snap a talked-about photo. It's a beautiful and (dare we say it) important shoot, because it marks a moment where Kim Kardashian is being considered for something other than a tabloid reality queen. There is, however, an eerie tongue-in-cheek air about the whole thing. In all honesty, it's the soundtrack that's heightening the dramatic look-at-what-I've-done factor Roitfeld was going for. After all, her decision to put the one woman Vogue refuses to feature on the cover, is a velvet slap in the face to Ms. Wintour. Whether its impact will change the way the Kardashian clan is viewed, though, is still up for debate.
