The Grammys might be music's biggest night, but the VMAs are easily pop culture's. Ever since its inception in 1984, MTV's Video Music Awards have been the go-to place for provocative, game-changing performances. They're what we talk about years after they happen (there still is no kiss worthy of the title "The Kiss" since Madonna's with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera).
