Rihanna has a gold grill, and for once, we're a little puzzled. When we said that RiRi could pull off almost anything, we weren't imagining a gold AK-47 mouth accessory. It's a questionable sartorial choice, for sure. She does, after all, have an affinity for firearms: she has two gun-themed tattoos, and sings about licking the weapon in her Rated R track, "G4L." It's bold, but doing a send-up to weaponry feels forced — which is a first for her (at least from our perspective). To be honest, using guns as lyrical metaphor like she did in "Man Down" is one thing, but making a firearm an accessory is not stylish. The grill is glorifying the sexiness of violence.
There's a difference between being hard edge and exploitative, especially by making an automatic weapon look "chic" or cool. This look is teetering towards the latter. Honestly, we're a little surprised the "Diamonds" singer didn't get a, you know, diamond grill. This is Rihanna, though, the gun grill will be history come Saturday. (MTV)
