Do We Shop Designer Labels To Intimidate Other Women?

Wang, Stella, Burberry — all at the top of our wish lists, right? But what’s the real reason we want designer labels in our wardrobes? Well, according to recent research, it’s to fend of “romantic rivals”— to create an air of intimidation, so other ladies won’t steal our beaus. Seriously?
The study, conducted by the University of Minnesota, concludes that, “The feeling that a relationship is being threatened by another woman automatically triggers women to want to flash Gucci, Chanel, and Fendi to other women.” It claims that when women feel our love lives are under threat, it’s in our nature to splurge on labels. If that’s really the case, Selfridges should have an agony aunt at the end of every checkout. Professor Vladas Griskevicius further added, “When a woman is flaunting designer products, it says to other women "back off my man.” Umm, we’re not so sure. We want to buy designer clothes because they’re dreamy and we absolutely love them (we're talking to you Marni sandals). Scaring away competition is just an extra perk. Honest. (Daily Mail)
