Finally, Gay Marriage Is Legalised In England!

Ladies and gentlemen, the Queen has spoken. After six months of circling through the Houses of Parliament, Queen Elizabeth II has given her stamp of approval on a bill legalising same-sex marriage in the England. Civil partnerships were introduced in 2005, and will be recognised as a marriage if couples wish to convert. Under the new law, couples will be able to tie the knot anywhere in Britain and Wales as long as the religious institution they request honors it (the country's official faith, the Church of England, unfortunately does not consent).
What matters is that another watershed moment has happened in the fight for equality. With the States still basking in the afterglow of June's DOMA overturn, it's fantastic to see the influence carry across the Atlantic. Congratulations to our British friends! Parliament member Yvette Cooper could not have said it better, "[It's] time to celebrate and not discriminate." Today, we raise our cup of tea to you. (News)
