The exciting part about reading something like PostSecret or finding love letters in really old library books is seeing someone's intimate, unedited thoughts. But in an increasingly digital age, written intimacy has a new medium, as our correspondence exists mainly on things like Facebook, text messages, and email.

Commissioned by Magasin 3 for the exhibition On The Tip of My Tongue, Miranda July's newest project, We Think Alone, explores this very change in privacy. The project shares sent emails of some of today's most interesting minds, including Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Lena Dunham, and Kirsten Dunst (fingers crossed there's an On the Road-era note to Garrett Hedlund in there).
Speaking about the project, July says "[it] has given me the excuse to read my friends' emails and the emails of some people I wish I was friends with...None of these emails were originally intended to be read by me (much less you)...Privacy, the art of it, is evolving." Interested? Of course you are. You can sign up online. Anyone else counting this as their summer reading?
