Sesame Street taught us a lot of things besides our ABCs and 123s: It taught us the value of good 'ole r-e-s-p-e-c-t, how to share, and how to see beyond differences to be the best of friends with anyone. Despite its fruitful attempts to assure us that puppets don't have sexual orientations, we've always suspected that Bert & Ernie were a little more than buds. Now the New Yorker has gone and said what we've all been thinking by drawing the two snuggling on their couch watching SCOTUS on TV. (Please note: This is the only time we're completely okay with a national publication outing a celebrity.)
In the wake of the Supreme Court's DOMA overturn and Prop 8 standstill, the media has gone well over the rainbow to show their support. YouTube's done it, wedding magazines have done it, and now magazine covers have done it, too. Perhaps Sesame Street will listen to that one petition urging the odd-couple "roommates" to marry since it's finally legal. Or they'll probably just do an episode showing love doesn't discriminate — which we'd be okay with, too. (Entertainment Weekly)
