Just when you thought the Obama ladies had cornered the market on White-House style, the prez is stepping it up with a fancy new monogrammed bag — a Mulberry satchel worth over $2K. The gift came courtesy of the coveted English brand during the G8 Summit in Ireland earlier this week. Styleite reports that Mulberry bestowed personalized bags on Obama, Vladimir Putin, and six other heads of state. German chancellor Angela Merkel, the sole woman in attendance, scored a chic black Piccadilly bag.
Now hear us out: We won't argue that this isn't some of the most amazing swag ever. But we also can't help but question the appropriateness — or at least, acknowledge the irony — of a fashion brand showering world leaders with nearly $20K in handbags while they've gathered to discuss pressing global issues, such as food shortages, health crises, and environmental concerns.
