Macklemore, Tom Petty, & More Shows To Catch This Week

1

Majical Cloudz, Gobby: Glasslands, May 21, $10
Majical Cloudz may have first been recognized for their work with fellow Canadian musician Grimes, but the band is a far cry from Claire Boucher's ethereal sound. Instead, Devon Welsh and Matthew Otto make quietly somber synth-pop that captures struggling relationships and existential dread. One of our favorite new acts.

Tuesday, May 21, 8:30 p.m., Glasslands, 289 Kent Ave (between South 1st and South 2nd Streets); Brooklyn; 718-599-1450.

XXL Freshmen Tour: Schoolboy Q, Trinidad Jame$, Joey Bada$$, Ab-Soul, Logic, Action Bronson, Kirko Bangz, Travi$ Scott, Dizzy Wright, Angel Haze: Best Buy Theater, May 21, $28
Featuring a lineup of just about every up-and-coming MC in the rap game, the XXL Freshmen Tour is a excellent chance to catch a ton of great hip-hop artists in one night. From Black Hippy's Schoolboy Q and Ab-Soul, to Refinery29 musical muse Angel Haze, this bill is seriously stacked.

Tuesday, May 21, 7 p.m., Best Buy Theater, 1515 Broadway (at W 44th Street); 212-930-1950.

DFA Records 12th Anniversary: James Murphy, Shit Robot, The Juan Maclean, The Crystal Ark, Pat Mahoney, Nancy Whang (The Juan Maclean/LCD Soundsystem), Tim Sweeney, Yacht, The Rapture (Gabe & Vito DJ Set), Prinzhorn Dance School, Planningtorock, Larry Gus, Dan Bodan, Black Dice, Still Going, Marcus Marr: Grand Prospect Hall, May 25, $30
To celebrate 12 years of new-disco hits, famed Williamsburg-based label DFA is throwing a huge bash in conjunction with Red Bull Music Academy. The show will feature virtually every current act on the label's roster, including hipster-godhead/label-impresario/former LCD-Soundsystem-mastermind James Murphy. This is going to be a good one.
