Vivienne Westwood Joins The Mile High Club (Sort Of)

VW1
Vivienne Westwood: fashion pioneer, punk revolutionary, style maven…and designer of cabin crew uniforms? Oh yes. Westwood has given the Virgin Atlantic crew a makeover. As seen in the illustration here, the airline's signature red is present but Westwood’s telltale razor-cut tailoring takes centre stage.
At first, we were a little perplexed about how and why this partnership came to be. But, it seems that Richard Branson and Vivienne Westwood go way back. Back to the days when a much younger Branson signed Malcolm McLaren’s (Westwood’s then boyfriend) band, The Sex Pistols, to his record label. The rest is history.
Cut to the present day and Branson and Westwood’s shared passion for sustainability and the environment have enabled the two to create a collection incorporating the latest in eco-fashion technology. The uniforms are made from recycled polyester yarn that originally started life as plastic bottles, while the canvas in some of the remaining fabric was created from reused roadside banners. The collection will make its runway debut in July 2013. Be sure to check it out next time you take to the skies. (Vogue)
