    One of the reasons that Time magazine's most influential issue is a tome we look forward to each year is because it's a chance to see familiar faces — Jay-Z, Jennifer Lawrence, Jimmy Fallon — next to international activists.

    This year, the pairings of influencers and "writers," who just happens to be as influential as their subject, are particularly good: Chelsea Clinton writes on Malala Yousafzai, John Legend talks about Frank Ocean, Tom Brokaw on Steven Spielberg. (Sadly, we don't get to hear a lot of the writers' voices, because of Time's evenhanded copy-editing.)

    A couple of those who we certainly consider today's most influential thinkers, designers, and actresses made the list — and the authors of each of their pieces were stellar choices. Check out our favorites.
