While Alexa Chung is one It Brit, we didn't know that she was also such a typical New Yorker. That's right — the superstar model graces Time Out New York's "Spring Fashion" cover and chats all things Big Apple. Sporting her signature unkempt-polished look and k-k-killer cheekbones, Chung makes us long for the sunnier season, especially with the accompanying editorial spread that features the Fuse TV host in everything from sequined booties to a pale-pink suit paired with an oversized piano clutch.
But, it's the interview that really makes us fall in love with AC even more. She tells the mag that she lives in the East Village in a "really small apartment" with a "small and messy closet." As for that wardrobe, well, the DJ claims she crushes on Gap's affordable men's sweaters, but she hates dressing sexy, which is kind of a problem when it comes to the city's boiling summers: "I find spring and summer in NYC particularly difficult to dress for because my style is absolutely based on layering. When I can’t do that, I don’t understand what I’m going to do. I hate anything sexy, and I hate a lot of flesh showing, but there’s no other option. If I could walk around in a bikini I’d be okay, because it’s that hot."
Plus, — she has had a bad outfit! — Chung also dishes on her fashion misshapes: "I got punk a bit wrong when I was 17,” she tells Time Out. “I misinterpreted it and crossed it with some weird Pokémon-Tamagotchi hybrid, so I had this weird cyberdog look, which was really unfortunate for a lot of years.” Talk about learning from your mistakes.
