Karl Lagerfeld is officially, irrevocably, 100% forgiven for those Magnum ads. In a match made in fashion heaven, it was announced today that the Kaiser hand-selected Tilda Swinton to be the new face (or, as he calls it, "heroine") of Chanel's Métiers d'Art Paris-Edimbourg collection. (Makes sense, as Edimbourg is français for Edinburgh, Scotland's capital). The former Pringle model will appear in the line's advertising campaigns, and the first look at the shots reveal Swinton doing what she does best — smoldering sternly against a medieval background while wearing a heavy, regal, brocaded white dress. (In other words, a perfect gown for The White Witch to dispense Turkish delights.)
While she's no Parisian ingenue, Lagerfeld has zero compunctions about casting the decidedly Anglo actress for the French house. "Tilda perfectly embodies the Paris-Edimbourg collection. She is of course Scottish, but more than that she is a modern woman, a timeless icon of elegance," says the king.
