Why You Won’t Be Able To Find The J.Crew Inaugural Looks In Stores

Lest you think that the first family's affinity for J.Crew is a manufactured one (and that the brand regularly sends Malia, Sasha, and Michelle current-season pieces to wear in order to generate publicity), think again. Jenna Lyons told the Today show: "Most often, [Michelle] purchased it from previous seasons or has pulled it out of her closet, so it's not available."
However, that's not to say the Obama ladies don't get a little special treatment from Jenna and company. J.Crew won't reissue or continue selling certain pieces "just out of respect for the first family." For example, Malia's plum-bright coat is available in stores, but J.Crew is planning on retiring the color. Additionally, Michelle's purple gloves, embroidered sash, and aluminum pumps will also be discontinued.

For a brand as huge as J.Crew to not cash in on the publicity of the occasion is commendable for the company...but pretty terrible for us, as all our favorite things at J.Crew seem to be the first family's favorites, too. This might be the first time we've wished for a less stylish clan in the White House.
