Yesterday, as you may have read, Anne Hathaway exited a car. And in that exit, the actress (who was wearing one helluva get-up) accidentally flashed "something" as she left a limo at the New York premiere of Les Misérables. It might have been some upper thigh, and it might have been something more salacious, but either way, we didn't cover it because a) sometimes, underwear doesn't work with your custom Tom Ford because it is a red carpet and there are eight billion other factors to juggle, and b) it just feels gross. Yet, we are covering the tact, grace, and sheer like-a-boss-ness Anne Hathaway handled the incident this morning on the TODAY Show.

Matt Lauer, in a surprisingly creepy move, asked Hathaway about the photos of her panty-less crotch that have become an Internet sensation. Lauer not-so-tactfully probes, “What’s the lesson learned from something like that? Other than that you keep smiling, which you always do.” And Hathaway replies:
“It was obviously an unfortunate incident. I think it kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment, and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it. And I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies the sexuality of unwilling participants, which brings us back to Les Mis…”
Hathaway then draws a connection between this recent incident and the sexual exploitation suffered by Fantine, her character in Les Misérables. Bravo, Annie, on many fronts. Going commando on the red carpet, especially when wearing a Tom Ford capelet/cocoon, just makes sense, but most importantly: Unwilling upskirt shots are ALWAYS a violation, whether the victim is famous or not.
