Lena Dunham Talks About Her First Time…Voting (Controversy Ensues)

Just a few days after that amazing "You Don't Own Me" video, the Obama campaign has released a new ad featuring the ever-awkward Lena Dunham.
In the video, "Your First Time," Dunham dishes on her first time...in the voting booth.

“Your first time shouldn’t be with just anybody. You want to do it with a great guy,” Dunham says in the video.
But from that suggestive start, it’s soon clear she’s talking about voting for Obama (and encouraging viewers to do the same), as she lists qualities like caring about health insurance and supporting gay marriage.
“You don’t want a guy who says, ‘Oh, hey, I’m at the library studying,’ when really he’s out not signing the Lilly Ledbetter Act,” she says, referring to the first bill President Obama signed, which expands the rights of women and others to sue for pay discrimination.
As of midnight of last night, the video has seemed to have gone viral, prompting a huge amount of negative votes and comments — mostly from people who don't know who Dunham is. Critics have jumped on the sex metaphor, and The Cut has suggested some conservative sites are jumping on the suggestion that Obama can't talk to women without invoking sex. Of course, this is Lena Dunham: It simply wouldn't be her without a little controversy.
