Hopefully, a time will come very, very soon when a plus-size model in a major editorial isn't news anymore. But for now, let us praise Robyn Lawley for her appearance in an insanely hot swimsuit editorial for Australian Cosmopolitan. While we expect the inevitable "you call that plus-size?!?" comment, may we point out that even if Robyn is still thinner than the average American woman (she's a size 12 and six feet tall), she's a lot more relatable, not to mention attainable, than most magazine models. Cosmopolitan is far from the worst offender when it comes to unrealistically thin models, but this is still refreshing.
It's not just the fact that she's technically plus, or that the swimsuits are available in higher sizes. This is one of those rare editorials that's done tastefully and doesn't try to capitalize on the supposedly controversial fact that she's plus-size. It's barely mentioned in the captions, and the poses are the same as they would be for any other model. And while she does wear a few one-pieces, they're not the usual modest, granny-worthy coveralls. They're sexy, on trend, and could easily be adored by a girl of any size. And, best of all, it's clear that the images aren't overly retouched. This is a great example of fixing small-skin imperfections and editing shadows without taking the life out of a body.
