First Lady Michelle Obama returned to the stage at the Democratic National Convention last night, delivering a speech that was deft and self-assured, conveying her trademark firm-but-friendly attitude, and calling out the opposition without resorting to name-calling. In case you missed it, here are our top five takeaways from Charlotte last night:
1. When Michelle and Barack started dating, his ride was a hunk o' junk. "[He] picked me up for our dates in a car that was so rusted out, I could actually see the pavement going by, through a hole in the passenger side door."
2. Who could have predicted pink? Our money was on a striking red or royal blue frock, but Michelle opted for a shimmering, carnation-pink custom Tracy Reese number that flattered her figure and her complexion. Oh, and how soon do you think those J.Crew Everly suede pumps will sell out? We give it 24 hours.

3. Yep, her mani was a glossy gray. Score one for the nail-heads!
4. She made a subtle play for marriage equality: "Barack knows the American Dream because he’s lived it, and he wants everyone in this country to have that same opportunity, no matter who we are, or where we’re from, or what we look like, or who we love.”
5. Carina Victoria, daughter of San Antonio mayor Julián Castro, might just be the cutest hair-flipper ever. Dad's speech about his hard-working mother might have been moving, but the three-year-old's primping moment stole the spotlight.
