Fall Checklist, Part I

From runway to eBay, our top trends made chic and cheap. By Christene Barberich & Piera Gelardi
There's no better time to reinvent your look and your closet than on the eve of fall. By now, you're probably hankering to pull out your favorite cardis and dark jeans (we're feeling it, too), but until that first chill sets in, there's still plenty of time to fill in the blanks and update what you've got with a few of our favorite fall trends.
Instead of heading straight to the shops, we decided to do some hunting online in our mecca of recycled fashion finds—eBay. From the most eclectic lace to fall/winter's ultimate street-chic leather looks, we've found some clever ways to get the look without the big bill at the end of the month. Note: Stay tuned for more Fall Checklist features every week as we count down to fall, helping you get prepped for the season in all the right ways.

Prada ads aside, lace can be a hard look to pull off. We suggest taking a little bit a long way with either an easy not-too-formal dress (a loose cut or a paler shade is key) or a simple slim skirt.

We're all pining for some perfect leather pants and just the right little biker-inspired jacket. Though there was loads of leather all over the runways here and abroad, we're really digging micro-jackets with either soft biker elements or a military-style combo.

Designers really embraced their inner sparkle this season (who doesn't want a pair of sequin slim pants?). No matter how daring you are, everyone can sport a bit of shimmer this fall, whether with a flirty cocktail dress or just a touch of dazzle on an oversized sweater.

Maybe the cousin of sequins, velvet is back, and we're particularly into pieces with more of a boyish menswear bent.

Even though so many designers have been doing their own versions, we're still totally obsessed with the perfect little blazer. A mix between shrunken and a bit boxy is the cut we like best.
Winter Florals

There's something optimistic and joyful about wearing light wispy floral dresses in the fall and winter. We'll be sporting a bunch with thick opaque tights and high-heeled oxfords.

We've been loving the return of plaid over the last few season's, yet this fall, we especially like the outdoorsy prints turned out in some great sharp jackets and more feminine pieces like dresses and trousers.
